After School Program in Orlando: Pickup, Drop-Off, and a Place the Whole Family Can Train

  • Jul 24
  • 6 min read

Every Orlando parent knows the 3:00 p.m. problem.

The school bell rings, but your workday isn't over for another two or three hours. So you piece something together. A neighbor, a sitter, a program that's really just a room with a TV and a folding table. Your child comes home tired, wired, and still hasn't touched their homework.

We built something different, and we stay open until 6:30 p.m.

At CBP Martial Arts Academy, our after school program gets homework done and then puts your child in a Capoeira class. Capoeira is the Brazilian martial art that mixes self-defense, acrobatics, live music, dance, and culture into one practice. Most of our students end up asking to come in on days they aren't even scheduled.

It isn't only for the kids, either. More on that below.

Two Ways to Join: Pickup or Drop-Off

We're a small, family run academy and our van seats are limited, so there are two ways into the program.

Option 1: We pick your child up from school

We run daily pickup routes from:

  • Millennia Elementary School

  • Shingle Creek Elementary School

  • Other local schools

No carpool line and no scrambling out of a meeting at 3 p.m. Your child rides with one of our own instructors rather than a contract driver, and they're training within the hour.

Routes are capped by van capacity, so these spots tend to fill first.

Option 2: You drop off after school

This is the option most of our families use, and it's open to every school in the Orlando area.

If your child goes to a school we don't service, or if a grandparent, sitter, or older sibling already handles the school run, just bring them to us afterward. Drop-off students get the same homework support, the same daily Capoeira class, and the same care until 6:30 p.m. The only difference is who drives.

Not sure which option fits your week? Call (321) 710-7136, since some families use a mix of both.

Most Orlando after school programs close at 6:00, which becomes a real problem if you work a shift, sit in I-4 traffic, or can't walk out the door the second the clock hits five. We added that extra half hour because our families asked for it.

By the time you get here, homework is finished and your child has worked off a full day of sitting still.

What Is Capoeira, and Why Does It Work So Well After School?

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art created more than 400 years ago. It combines self-defense, acrobatics, live music, dance, and community into a single practice. Instead of lining up and punching the air, students form a roda, a circle where two players move together while everyone else sings and plays instruments.

A few reasons it works so well for a child at 4:00 on a Tuesday.

It's physical without being aggressive. Capoeira builds strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, and there's no hitting involved. Kids learn control.

It's musical. Students learn to play the berimbau, the atabaque, and the pandeiro, and to sing in Portuguese. That means rhythm, memory, and language, which is very different work from another worksheet.

It's social. You can't do Capoeira by yourself. Every movement answers a partner's movement, so quieter kids get pulled into the group whether they planned on it or not.

It's cultural. Your child learns where the art came from and why it survived, not just how to kick.

Life Skills, Not Babysitting

We run the academy on a simple idea. Every child has more in them than they know.

That shows up in small ways. A student who couldn't do a cartwheel in September lands one in November and learns what practice actually feels like. A quiet kid gets asked to lead the warm up. A student who wants to quit gets told, gently but firmly, to try one more time.

Parents tell us what they notice at home:

  • Confidence from doing hard things in front of other people

  • Discipline from showing up and focusing for a full class

  • Respect for instructors, for older students, and for younger ones

  • Resilience, because Capoeira is hard at first and kids learn that hard isn't the same as impossible

  • Belonging, in a room where nobody stays the new kid for long

Several families have told us their child's teacher noticed the change at school. That matters more to us than anything that happens on the mat.

One Place for the Whole Family

Most parents come to us looking for after school care. A good number of them end up training too.

We run daily classes for kids, teens, and adults at the same academy, which opens up a few things:

  • You can take the adult class while your younger child is in the kids' class

  • Teenagers get a class of their own instead of being stuck between the kids' group and the adult group

  • Siblings of different ages all have somewhere to be at the same time

  • Families can train together on weekends instead of sitting on a bench watching

Adult Capoeira is a full body workout. Strength, flexibility, cardio, and coordination, with no treadmill involved. Most of our adult students had never trained in a martial art before they walked in.

Orlando families spend a lot of evenings driving between three different activities. Parking once and having everyone in the same building doing something healthy saves more time than it sounds like it would.

Small, Family Oriented, and We Know Every Kid's Name

Orlando has plenty of large after school programs where your child is one of 120. We're not one of them.

CBP is small and family oriented, and we keep it that way on purpose. Our instructors know your child's temperament, which subject gives them trouble, and which day of the week they come in dragging. If something seems off, you hear about it from a person rather than an app notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you pick up from my child's school? We currently run daily pickup from Millennia Elementary and Shingle Creek Elementary. If your school isn't on that list, our drop-off option is open to every school in the Orlando area, with the same program. Call (321) 710-7136 to check current routes.

Can I drop my child off instead of using the van? Yes. Drop-off families make up most of our after school program and get exactly the same afternoon, including homework support, Capoeira class, life skills, and care until 6:30 p.m.

What ages do you accept? Our after school program serves ages 4+. The academy also offers daily classes for kids, teens, and adults.

Does my child need martial arts experience? No. Most of our after school students had never heard of Capoeira before their first day. Classes are mixed level and built for beginners.

Is Capoeira safe for young kids? Yes. Capoeira is non-contact by design, and the movements are about control, timing, and space. Classes are led by trained instructors and grouped by age and ability.

Do you help with homework? Yes. Homework support is a structured part of every afternoon.

Can parents take classes too? Yes, and many do. We offer daily adult classes alongside our kids and teen programs, so the whole family can train at the same academy.

Can we try it first? Yes. We offer a free trial class for kids, teens, and adults. Text "free trial" to book a free trial class.

Come See It for Yourself

Most parents tell us the same thing after a few weeks. Their child is tired in a good way, the homework is finished, and evenings at home got easier.

If you want to find out whether it's a fit, come try a class. It's free, and there's no pressure to sign up afterward.
